Numerology is the synchronicity of numbers as a reflection of the universe. How numbers add up, subtract etc brings meaning. It is an old tradition and there are many well used and accepted ways of determining aspects of our character. This month I am going to look how we find our soul and personality numbers and relate them to the Major arcana of the Thoth deck. I will use my own numbers as an example.


So My birthday is 4th June 1966


that's 4/6/1966


To find out your personality number you add up the digits until you come to a number under 21


so

4 + 6 + 1966 = 1976


then reduce this down to a number under 21


1 + 9 + 7 + 6 = 23


2 + 3 = 5


So my personality number is 5 and this matches to the Heirophant in the major arcana.

In my case my soul number is also 5, however if your first number under 21 is something like 14 then you can reduce this further 1 + 4 = 5 so someone with a personality number of 14 - which is Art also has the Heirophant as their soul number.


If you have three numbers under 21 then the middle one is the creativity number. for example if your first number under 21 is 19 then this reduces to 10 which then reduced to 1


So your Soul card would be 1 - Magus

Creativity card 10 - Fortune

Personality card 19 - The Sun


So once you have your card you can see the essences that will play out in your personality and the lessons you are learning in your soul in this lifetime.


For me I am the Heirophant both in personality and in my soul growth..


This shows in my life as a need to teach and also to learn constantly, all through my life I recognise this energy. There are aspects of wanting to find the higher purpose in all that life presents before me - both in my inner world and in my outer expression within the world. As I look at the Heirophant card I see my determination and sometimes stubbornness in the bull - and also the determination to overcome obstacles that present themselves to me in my path from the elephant - often looking to the highest view to understand and overcome the block in front of me. My intuition (high priestess on the card) guides me as I walk forward and aim to both learn and teach all who would be open to learning. I have a tendency to like rules yet also fight against them, finding the highest rules, the spiritual laws, that govern all things wherever possible. Knowing too that I am ever as a child and will never understand it all, nor should I - retaining the innocence of incarnation in this world - though we can touch other planes, experiencing then in many and varied ways, we can never forget that whilst we are living in the physical we can't fully comprehend the magnificence of the whole, nor assume we can truly know another's pathway fully - though we are sometimes privy to snapshots in time of another's life, only our own soul truly knows our destiny over time and space, lifetime through lifetime.


The Heirophant is ruled by Taurus so Taurean energies are apparent also, The love of beauty, creativity and art. A strong connection with nature and the earth and the fixed nature of change coming slowly and in a considered way. More details on Taurus can be found on Skyscript - an excellent astrology resource

Hi,

First time visit to the forum & I can't believe that poor old Emma's having to do all the work herself! [Might post that as a 'New Topic' later]!

If your birthday is the 25th, I'm guessing that one adds 25 to 6 and 1960 [my birthdate], to give 1991

Then 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 to give 20 or 2.

If I add 2 + 5 + 6 + 1960 i get 1973 which also = 20 or 2

But as a check:

14 + 6 + 1960 = 1980 = 28 = 10 = 1

and:

1 +4 + 6 + 1960 = 1971 = 18 = 9

I therefore conclude that the 'primary' [date], numbers are left whole

Yes thats right Nick, you keep each date section whole and add it to the others 23 + 12 + 1966 rather than adding the single digits in a line.

So you have the Sun as your personality card
and the Priestess as your soul card

How does that sit with you?

Sun & Moon eigh! One on either side. I can empathise with that. it's the poor old me in the middle with all that going on around me and i can't use it like i should be using it :cry: !

Have you seen my posts on the TABI forum? I'm pretty exhausted by it all now, time for me to be quite. Anyway, I was having a go about the new universal Waite pack & wondered if Pamela Coleman-Smith hadn't been reincarnated as a 'famous Icelandic pop singer', namely Bjork. I posted a couple of photos of the two..

I also did numerology thing of their birthdates. One came up as 6, the other, 9. Kind of weird feeling getting the second result!
What does this prove? Nothing, but it's nice to know somehow.

I haven't seen all your posts on TABI forum, not the ones on these to - though I have read a few, a reading you did was interesting though I haven't had time to look at it in depth.

Sounds right, you are the sun in activity and outward going in your personality, but you need the down time and rest to recharge from your moon - your soul needs the space time. It is a good combination of the inner and outer though with Sun and Moon there - when you can allow them to work together - with each other then you become clear and powerful in whatever you do. The sun serves the moon. Even though the moon is the reflector here. It is our outward going sides that serve and protect the inner worlds, the intuitive and the knowing we have of reality.

Perhaps your sun side is running around exuberantly, and forgets to listen to the inner until reminded by tiredness, a good sign to have though, easy to read that you need medatative, inner space and a quietness within.

Just some thoughts.... :)

Just a small thought where in your process of theosophic reduction you get 5. There is also another process that you can add to this to take the numerical value further. Its called theosophic extension how it works is dead easy.. lol..

5 = 1+2+3+4+5 = 15

now some of the larger numbers like 19 are a tad more complex but similar process can be applied.

19 = 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12+13+14+15+16+17+18+19 = 190

Ironically at this point we go back to reduction ( I never designed the system ...lol):

190 = 1+9+0 = 10
with 10 we can either reduce further and get 1 or see as the magus and the fool in relationship..

Again we can take the 10 and follow through with more extension:

10 = 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10= 55
interestingly this also gives us 10 in this example... lol.. (which curiously we also get if we reduce at the start 19 = 1+9 = 10, showing a really strong connection between the sun and the wheel of fortune ;) )

Anyways its something folks can play with, and you can build a very peculiar reading from it. Especially when you look at the cards. Its also a way of seeing hidden relations between the cards. To illustrate:

5's in the minor cards and the Hierophant in the Thoth are already connected. However with the 5 through extension we get 15 the Devil card, showing a very interesting connection for different reasons. In this case as for one theological concept that ties the two we have the Hierophant, the expounder and keeper of the gates and keys of spiritual connection (seen in other decks as the pope, a vessel of god) in juxtaposition to the representation of opposition the Devil. This lets one see the working patterns of Polarity in motion.
Also tied with the 5th sphere of the Tree of Life Geburah, martial forces and direct action in relation to the 5's we can play further on the interpretive aspects of the cards by looking at these types of relationships. and connections.

Dang i have missed rambling nonsense..lol.. Anyways just a thought to give you something to play about with..

Thanks for your post here Criag - that is very interesting as another tool to use. I can relate to a hidden 'devil' image in my own experience too - it it through the understanding of my shadow, how I was holding mysewlf back in life and the dealing with the darker sides of myself that has given me the grounding and development to them be able to do the teaching I do. In a personal way I can see the connection as well as the polar way they are connected with each other.

It would be interesting to hear of other peoples feelings on doing these numerological reductions and expansions for their own numbers. Does the connection feel right? How does or Does your own personal life fit with the information from the two cards?
